.do files or how to enhance user registration on a gateway...

Has anyone figured out what they have configured to process .do files ?
I'd like to alter Register.do so email is sent out when someone registers with our gateway, so we can then get on and verify them.
I've found the .jsp's but I need to find the server backend code so I can enhance it.
