Forum Registration - Please read!!!
We're being bombarded by spambots attempting to register for the forum. These pending registrations get manually deleted, normally twice per day.
To ensure that your registration isn't included in that purge, please ensure that your registered User Name includes your name or call, and is readily apparent that it is not an automated entry.
If we inadvertently delete your registration, I apologize in advance. Choosing a user name that's obviously a person will help keep me from making errors like that.
Thanks!
Jim

Testing Forums
This forum gives you a chance to become more familiar with how this program responds to different features and keeps testing in one place instead of posting tests all over.
This should be a place to post a test, to see if you can do it. Don't put anything you want everyone to read here.
Happy Posting! :)

Ask Bill, Fred & Jim
Bill Moore, N5ZPR, and Jim McClellan, N5MIJ, have been working with D-STAR since December of 2003. We've accumulated some pretty good experience with the technology, and are more than willing to share it. We want you to not have to experience some of the pain we did!
We've had some requests for things that generally need to be shared knowledge. Those can be posted here. If you have a question, feel free to ask. We'll do our best to find an answer.
When asking a question, create a new topic for each new question, please. Please consider using a good, but short, topic title that will identify the subject of the question. This will help people searching.

Mobile Antenna
Kent Britain, WA5VJB, has designed a pretty good mobile antenna, that most of us are capable of constructing.
Look at http://www.wa5vjb.com/references/1200MHzant.pdf

Routers to connect repeaters to Internet
It is CRITICAL that there be a router between a D-Star gateway (or repeater, if you're not using the gateway) and the Internet. The system simply cannot handle the volume of traffic on an unprotected port.
The router MUST support a Class A Network space on the inside if you use the Gateway. Those that support only a class C space will not work with the Gateway, although they work just dandy with a stand-alone repeater or ID-1.
Look here to discuss various routers for D-Star.

D-Star Documentation
As we can accumulate English translations of the original Japanese protocol documentation, we'll put it in this folder:
The directory is directly browsable.
If you have additional documentation available, please let us know.
Please direct comments or questions to N5MIJ at K5TIT.Org
Thanks,
Jim
